From the Kitchen

The Classic Lunch Tray

The everyday standard — a warm wrap, crisp side salad, mac and cheese, whole fruit, and a glass of milk. Whole-grain, balanced, and the lunch kids actually finish.

What We Do

The whole operation, handled.

KEYS runs the entire program. From menu engineering and USDA compliance (National School Lunch Program) to staffing the line and keeping the cooler full — every plate is cooked in a kitchen we operate, never handed off to a school to serve themselves.

Schools & Institutions

Breakfast, lunch and supper programs (to those who qualify) for K-12 schools, charter networks, and youth-serving institutions. Full USDA (NSLP) program management included.

Two Service Models

We work around your facility.

Whether KEYS operates your existing kitchen or delivers from one of our county-licensed commissaries, every program runs to the same standard — the same chef-led quality, the same compliance, the same care.

Model A · On-Site Kitchen

We staff and run your kitchen.

  • KEYS team installs, staffs, and operates your existing commercial kitchen
  • Meals cooked on campus daily — full menu rotation
  • Procurement, training, and compliance managed end-to-end
  • Branded service line, equipment maintenance, and sanitation included
Model B · Commissary + Delivery

We bring the kitchen to you.

  • Meals prepared at one of our three county-licensed commissaries
  • Delivered daily via the KEYS fleet — temperature controlled
  • Identical menu standards across both models — no compromise on quality
  • Same menu standards, same compliance, same prep standards
How Partnership Works

Four steps, then we cook.

From first call to first meal in 30–60 days. The handoff is built around your school year, your facility, and your community.

Connect

A 30-minute call with our team. Tell us about your program — students fed, dietary needs, current setup, and program goals.

Walk & Plan

We come on-site. Walk the facility together. Map out menus, staffing, equipment, and compliance pathways tailored to your operation.

Tailored Proposal

Within two weeks: a costed program tailored to your facility, USDA-compliant (NSLP) menus, and a launch timeline. No surprises.

Operate

We hire, train, source, install, and serve. From day one, your food service is run by a partner who shows up.

Built for Every Plate

Inclusive by design — not by accommodation.

Halal-approved proteins from certified vendors, full vegetarian menus, and allergen-aware kitchens. Our menus reflect the communities we feed.

Vendor Certified

Halal-Approved Sourcing

Halal proteins sourced from certified vendors. Vendor documentation available for institutional review on request.

Plant-Forward

Vegetarian

Whole-grain bowls, garden-driven entrées, and protein-balanced plates that satisfy without meat — designed daily, not as an afterthought.

Rooted in Michigan

Local sourcing isn't a marketing line. It's our supply chain.

For more than seven years, KEYS has built relationships with the same Michigan distributors, bakers, and dairies that feed the rest of the state. Local sourcing keeps the supply chain short, dollars local, and accountability close.

Every plate is the product of those relationships — and the three county-licensed commissary kitchens we operate across Metro Detroit.

Our Providers

Proudly sourced from Michigan partners.

Every truck that pulls into our kitchen comes from a regional supplier we've worked with for years — family-run dairies, certified produce houses, and West Michigan distributors held to USDA and HACCP standards.

Honestly, the meals look like food the kids actually want now — and they notice. Our cafeteria feels like ours again ever since KEYS came in.

Working with KEYS has been the smoothest food service relationship we’ve had. Their team is professional, communication is clear, and our students are eating well every day.
